On Saturday 2nd March, Hampshire Harmony, celebrating the choir's 60th Anniversary, were invited to perform at the Spring Charity Concert of the Mayor of Basingstoke, Councillor David Leeks. The concert included the Basingstoke Area Youth Orchestra and Choir and some of the best musical talent from the region.
Hampshire Harmony sang:
Heart, We Will Forget Him! Words by Emily Dickison Music by Laura Farnell; Anthem from Chess, Words and Music by Benny Andersson, Tim Rice and Bjorn Ulvaeus, Arranged by John Purifoy; Together with the Basingstoke Area Youth Choir they sang Viva La Vida, recorded by COLDPLAY
Presentationally, the choir looked so smart in their 'uniform' and throughout it was obvious that they were thoroughly enjoying the occasion. I asked several people around my seating area what they thought of the choir's performance and they were fulsome in their praise:
“Beautiful;” “Harmony;” “they certainly live up to their name;” “Superb;” “Great;” “Amazing;” “They look and sing so professionally.”
As one of the organisers stated at the end of the evening: 'the choir's performance was absolutely marvellous'.
Many congratulations.
Commenting on our performance and the concert in general, Hampshire Harmony Musical Director, Clare Oliver said:
“Congratulations on your super performance! Anthem was the best you have ever sung it and a lady in the lift afterwards said your performance was the highlight of the evening for her, and that you were superb!
“As a professional musician myself, it is heartening to see so many talented young musicians coming through the ranks. And they were so professional and well behaved. A real credit to Basingstoke!”
